Justice League and Other DC Universe Logos in the Style of “Man of Steel”

These Justice League logos are inspired by the “Man of Steel” movie. The Superman (Man of Steel) logo is my best attempt at replicating the movie’s poster featuring the stylized logo. The Batman (Caped Crusader) logo has three separate bat images on different depth layers. I intentionally did not use the Dark Knight logo for this one. The Wonder Woman (Amazon Princess) logo is a combination of the classic design with the New 52 style. The Flash (Scarlet Speedster) logo includes glowing elements and speed lines. The Green Lantern (Emerald Guardian) logo also includes several glowing inner layers. The Hawkman (Winged Warrior) logo has yellow straps connecting the outer ring to represent his chest emblem. The Aquaman (King of Atlantis) logo has a liquid texture. The Martian Manhunter logo has red wrap rings surrounding a dead planet.

I also created logos for World’s Finest (Batman/Superman), Trinity (Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman), and Red Son (Russian Superman).

General Zod and Faora’s Crests

These Kryptonian crests were made in the same style as the Superman logo from the “Man of Steel” movie. Both the General Zod and Faora Hu-Ul logos were based on various images found on the Internet (action figures, Legos, etc.). They were made using Adobe After Effects and the Video Copilot Element 3D plug-in.

Animated 3D Man of Steel Logo

I created this Man of Steel logo “trailer” using Adobe After Effects and a plug-in from Video Copilot called Element 3D. I did not have to import a 3D object – I was able to create the logo using four mask path 3D groups combined into a single object directly in Element 3D. I also turned on ambient occlusion for the shadows on the object itself (I used a copy of the E3D layer for the external shadow), motion blur for the faster animation, and depth of field for the closer shots. The text was also rendered using Element 3D. I also used six Optical Flares (another Video Copilot plug-in) and two light layers.

This Man of Steel Metropolis 3D animation was also made with Video Copilot’s Element 3D and the Metropolitan building pack.

I also made an earlier version without the 3D logo using the same music and text from the official teaser trailer.

Superman: Man of Steel Movie Set

Photos from the set of Man of Steel – the new Superman movie due out in 2013. The crew was filming at Union Station in downtown Chicago a block from my office back in September last year. I was able to walk through the set inside Union Station a few times, but security was extremely tight, so I didn’t get to take many photos. During one of my lunchtime walks, I met a few other fans and found out that I missed meeting Zack Snyder by about 5 minutes.

The Kids with the Avengers

Finally saw The Avengers last night! To prepare for the movie, I filmed the kids in front of a green screen and added them to a scene from the trailer. I rotoscoped the heroes in the front and color corrected, repositioned, and scaled the kids the best I could to blend into the scene. I added a bit of dust from Action Essentials 2 and played around with some of the new 3D text from AE CS6 (just downloaded on Friday) highlighted by an Optical Flare. The 3D text feature looks promising – can’t wait to spend some time learning all the new features.
